We had a client come in with a 2004 is300, which was ref-ed. Had a dtc p0456 small leak, we smoked vehicle found the over fill valve on top of tank leaking, lowered tank replaced valve re-smoked vehicle, found incorrect gas cap install " aftermarket", we replaced it with factory cap. Cleared mil and we thought we were done. Released vehicle to client guess what 3 days later vehicle is back, new dtc po457 something regarding fuel tank pressure. checked both vent and purge via scanner output test. both working, raised vehicle loosened bolts for evaporation canister so i could access the VSV and fuel tank pressure sensor. Since this vehicle was older i couldn't run a automated evap test so i check the wiring on all 3 valve purge, vent, and VSV. Backprobed all 3 to ground so i could forced evap into vacuum while monitoring FTP data, What I noticed during normal state FTP was @ .5 mm hg and when grounded "force" vacuum it dropped to -29 mm hg. Evap system is doing what I'm asking of it....but when returned to normal state it would still stay in vacuum. What we found was the canister having internal problem.
we replaced canister and drove vehicle 75 miles to complete all monitors
